Healthy Holiday Cookout

Whats up Fit Family, I know today is the 4th of JULY and to many people that means Fun, Fireworks and most importantly FOOD! If I have said it once I have said it a million times, “Don’t live to eat, Eat to live!”

Here is a list of some tips that will allow you to enjoy yourself without overindulging and feeling like you’ve ruined all of the hardwork you’ve been doing in the gym!

Grilled vegetables make for a great entrée themselves, especially veggies with hearty flavors like portobello mushrooms, squash, onions and peppers.
Turkey or chicken burgers made with all-white-meat ground turkey or chicken are great lean protein choices.

Opt for whole wheat buns or go w/ a naked burger! You wont even realize the bun is gone unles you try and pick it up w/ your hand. (Use a fork)

Watch the portions, Pay attention to not only what is on your plate, but how much food there is. Remember, a serving of meat is about the size of the palm of your hand. A serving of fruits or vegetables size of a baseball.

Skip the high-calorie desserts such as cake, cookies or ice cream and stick to a fresh fruit salad. Add a little whipped cream if you feel the need to sweeten things up.

Use fresh organic fruits and vegetables to garnish burgers and hotdogs. Tomatoes, peppers, onions, romaine lettuce, olives, mushrooms and avocado add great flavor

Drink Life Juice aka “WATER”, You should be getting half of your bodyweight in ounces daily already. Today is no different, you may even want to increase your water consumption slightly if you will be spending a considerable amount of time out doors.

Hopefully these tips will help you eat clean this 4th of July Holiday! Remember, Healthy is the New Sexy, so Eat clean and Shut Up and Train!
